The MR-1 is a purpose-driven Pikal blade built at the request of Marine Raider Scout Swimmers and engineered for serious CQB performance. Its Wharncliffe-style cutting edge, Night-series fighter grip, and perfectly placed ring deliver exceptional control in a reverse grip. We created a blade that hits every requirement for a dependable, hard-use combat tool. The MR-1 blends real-world Marine Raider needs with T. Kell design precision to produce a fiercely capable, trustworthy fighter.

Origins of the MR-1

The MR-1 was born from a direct request by a group of Marine Raider Scout Swimmers who needed a true Pikal-style blade built for real-world combat effectiveness. A Pikal is designed for reverse grip use with the edge facing your forearm, making it a devastating choice for close quarters work. Though not a traditional western blade style, the Pikal has proven itself time and again as one of the most effective CQB tools available.

Grip, Geometry, and Fighter Focus

To maximize cutting performance, we shaped the MR-1 with a Wharncliffe-style dead flat edge that makes every stroke count. It rides on our famed Night-series grip, known for its secure, ergonomic fighter’s feel. Slim, textured, and deeply contoured, the grip becomes part of your hand with a natural lockup. The ring placement sits exactly where it should, disappearing into your fist so you can clench hard while keeping your knuckles in optimal alignment.

Steel Selection Without the Hype

In true T.Kell fashion, the MR-1 avoids trendy steel choices and instead uses what actually performs. We selected AEB-L stainless steel with a high carbon content at 1.1 percent to deliver the traits this blade demanded. It offers high carbon blade performance, strong edge retention, corrosion resistance, and dependable field sharpening. Combined with our salt bath and deep cryogenic heat treatment, the MR-1 becomes a battle-ready CQB blade that can take abuse, hold a terrifying edge, and stay reliable when everything is on the line.
